“Draw With Me”- A New Documentary about Brendon Scholl by The Trevor Project.

TW: this article mentions suicide.

“Draw With Me” is an intimate look at Brendon Scholl’s journey of coming out as trans to their family. What’s more, the documentary showcases what an important role art played in helping Scholl express themselves and come to terms with their identity. “Art was a place where I could be myself…I could do what I wanted, and I didn’t have to worry about anybody else finding out about it,” says the 19-year-old in the official trailer.

Made in collaboration with the LGBTIAQ+ suicide prevention network The Trevor Project, the documentary also creates awareness around the rate of suicide amongst the trans community. “Scholl has navigated waters that are so frequently dangerous and deadly for the trans community. In fact, nearly half of all trans people have attempted suicide. Suicide ideation, or thinking that there is no other way to handle life other than with death, haunts so many—including Scholl’s past. This isn’t even to mention threats from bigoted others. But seeing Scholl’s strength and patience, as well as the developments made by their family and friends, all learning, offers tremendous hope,” writes David Graver in an article for Cool Hunting.

Scholl has also received incredible support from their world-famous aunt, Jennifer Lopez. Lopez posted the following clip to her Instagram account, which boasts 130 million followers.
