Gabon Votes to Decriminalise Homosexuality.

In a landmark move, the Gabon Senate voted to decriminalise homosexuality on Wednesday, 24 June 2020.

The ruling is a giant leap towards reversing the country’s 2019 law, which made homosexual sex for men and women illegal. While there has been some backlash, the vote did receive support from Gabon’s First Lady, Sylvia Bongo Ondimba via Twitter:

While this is certainly a step in the right direction for Gabon’s queer community, “there is no legal recognition of same-sex couples or legal protection against discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity in Gabon,” as Roberto Igual points out on Mamba Online.
