TELEVISION: Trans Star Hunter Schafer Makes Her Co-Writing Debut in the Latest “Euphoria” Special Episode.

After the global pandemic halted production on season 2 of the hit HBO show, the creators of Euphoria were quick to find a solution to bridge the gap between seasons.

“My instinct immediately was, ‘What can we do in the meantime? What’s a way to do more contained pieces that allow us to continue the emotional evolution of these characters?’,” says series creator Sam Levinson.

The result? Two one-hour specials - Trouble Don't Last Always and F*ck Anyone Who's Not a Sea Blob- that focus on Euphoria’s central characters Rue (Zendaya) and Jules (Hunter Schafer), respectively.

The first episode picks up directly after the Season 1 finale, focusing on Rue facing Christmas alone in the aftermath of the train station, and the second episode is an intimate exploration of the therapy session in which Jules tells her side of the story.

Schafer herself co-wrote and co-exec produced the second part with Levinson, which marked her debut in both roles.

“Jules feels the pressure of Rue’s sobriety resting on her,” says Hunter. “Jules is really worried that if she makes the wrong move with Rue, it could go straight back to relapsing. And that’s countered with the two of them being very in love.”

The complete season 1 of Euphoria and the two one-hour specials are now streaming on Showmax.
