“New Queer Photography” by Verlag Kettler - Edited by Benjamin Wolbergs.

About three years ago, editor Benjamin Wolbergs was inspired to create a book of contemporary queer photography. After stumbling across the work of Matt Lambert and Florian Hetz, Wolbergs decided to delve a little deeper. “As my research intensified, a universe of incredibly talented LGBTQ photographers emerged in front of me, characterised by a wide variety of different styles and visual worlds beyond clichés and preconceptions,” said Wolbergs in an interview with Advocate. And so, New Queer Photography was born.

The curated book introduces around 40 contemporary photographic perspectives, including those of well-established photographers such as Florian Hetz, Matt Lambert, Ren Hang, Exterface, Luke Austin, Ferry van der Nat, Jeremy Kost, Zanele Muholi, and Robin Hammond, as well as plenty of unknown and less well-known talent.

As the book’s publisher, Verlag Kettler, points out: “Art, more than anything, opens up the possibility of approaching one's own sexuality beyond the limits imposed by taboos. Not only does it allow for a risk-free, playful exploration of gender and forbidden desires, but it is unique in capturing its contradictions”.
