EXHIBITION: Brett Charles Seiler’s New Solo Show “Timber” in Cape Town.
Zimbabwean-born artist Brett Charles Seiler’s latest solo exhibition is currently on display at the Everard Read Gallery in Cape Town.
The show is called Timber, and the artist chose this particular word to encapsulate the exploration of notions of masculinity, home and loss. There is also a poignant autobiographical aspect to the exhibition, as it shows intimate moments and memories.
According to the gallery, “While the gallery space, painted black, becomes part of the narrative itself, the shadows of Seiler’s recognisably monochromatic work are lifted here and there with a leaf / school-board green and nude-pump pink. These bursts of colour hint at life beyond the conversational frame”.
Seiler graduated from the Ruth Prowse School of Art in Cape Town in 2015, and he has exhibited his paintings, installation art and performance pieces around South Africa, including at the Zeitz MOCAA.
Timber will be on display at the Everard Read Gallery in Cape Town until 20 March 2021.
